Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 7, 2026

Introduction

Groceries — Smart Lists ("the app") is designed to help you plan and manage grocery shopping with as little friction as possible. This policy explains what information the app uses, how your data is handled, and your privacy rights.

We believe grocery planning should be simple and private. No account is required to create and use lists in the app.

Information we collect

The app does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, or contact details simply because you use the app.

Grocery list data — including list names, items, quantities, stores, categories, and preferences — is stored locally on your device.

If you choose to send feedback by email, we receive only the information you include in your message. Optional diagnostics (such as app version, iOS version, and device model) are sent only with your consent.

How the app works

Groceries is a local-first app. Your lists and settings are primarily stored on your iPhone using on-device storage. The app is designed to work without an internet connection for everyday use.

The current version of the app does not include advertising or third-party tracking for analytics or marketing purposes.

Shared lists

Lists are only shared when you choose to share them — for example, by sending a link, showing a QR code, or copying the list as plain text.

Share links and QR codes. When you choose Send Link or Show QR Code, the app uploads a copy of the selected list to the service used to provide sharing. This includes the list name, item names, quantities, category identifiers, store identifiers, optional item notes, whether each item is marked complete, a creation timestamp, and a randomly generated share identifier.

This information is used only to create the shared list and allow a recipient to preview or import their own copy. It is not used for advertising, marketing, user profiling, or tracking.

Shared-list data is automatically deleted 90 days after the share link is created.

Copy as Text. This copies a readable grocery checklist to your device clipboard. It does not upload the list to our servers and does not create an importable shared-list link.

When someone imports a shared list, they receive their own copy on their device. Sharing is user-initiated and under your control.

Your choices and data deletion

You can delete individual lists and items from within the app. You can remove all locally stored app data by deleting the app from your device.

Shared-list data is automatically deleted after 90 days. To request earlier deletion of a shared list, email grocerylistapp.support@gmail.com and include the shared-list URL or share identifier.

Because the app does not require an account, we may not be able to identify a shared list without its share URL or identifier.

Data storage and retention

Grocery lists, items, stores, categories, preferences, and other everyday app data are stored locally on your device.

The app does not upload your full local database or continuously sync your lists to our servers. Data is transmitted to the sharing service only when you intentionally create a share link or QR code.

Shared-list data is retained for 90 days and then automatically deleted.

If you use device backup services such as iCloud Backup, local app data may be included in those backups according to Apple's policies and your device settings.

Service providers

We use Vercel to host the website, sharing API, and shared-list storage infrastructure. Vercel processes shared-list data only to operate and secure this functionality on our behalf.

Service providers that process data for the app are required to protect it consistently with this privacy policy and applicable requirements.

Advertising, tracking, and sale of data

We do not sell personal information or grocery-list data.

The app does not contain third-party advertising and does not use shared-list data for targeted advertising, marketing, or cross-app tracking.

Data security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards intended to protect shared-list data against unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. However, no storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Third-party services

The app may use standard Apple platform services (such as the App Store, system share sheet, and email) when you choose to use those features.

Apple and the App Store may collect information according to their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review Apple's privacy documentation for details about platform-level data collection.

The Groceries website (including this privacy page) is hosted on Vercel. Basic server logs from the hosting provider may include standard technical information such as IP addresses and access times.

Children's privacy

Groceries is a general-purpose utility app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy as the app or its data practices change. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date on this page.

If a change materially affects how data is collected or used, we will provide additional notice or request consent when required.
